Can't sign in

What to do when the panel refuses your password, a sign-in link doesn't work, your account is suspended, or your email app is blocked.

Most sign-in problems fix themselves within 15 minutes to an hour. This article covers each one, starting with the most common. Whatever the problem, Log in with email on the sign-in page is usually the quickest way back in.

"Too many sign-in attempts"

The panel stops accepting passwords after too many wrong ones in 15 minutes:

  • 5 wrong passwords for one account, from anywhere. This protects your account from someone guessing at it.
  • 10 wrong passwords from one address, for any accounts. Everyone sharing your internet connection, such as an office, counts together.

The message tells you how many minutes are left. Until then, sign in with a link instead:

  1. On the sign-in page, enter your email in the top box and press Log in with email.
  2. Open the email titled "Log in instructions" and follow its link.
  3. Press Keep me logged in on this device or Log me in only this time.

A sign-in link works even while your account is locked against passwords, so someone guessing can't keep you out. If the limit is on your address instead, links opened from that same connection are refused too: open the link on another network, such as your phone on mobile data, or wait for the time to run out.

You forgot your password

There's no separate password reset. Sign in with a link as above, then set a new password:

  1. Open Settings in the sidebar.
  2. Fill in New password and Confirm new password.
  3. Press Save Password.

Settings asks you to sign in again if it's been more than 10 minutes since you last did. That's normal: it protects your password and email address.

The sign-in email doesn't arrive

The panel always says "If your email is in our system, you will receive instructions for logging in shortly", whether or not the address has an account. So if nothing arrives:

  • check your spam or junk folder;
  • make sure you entered the email address your account uses, not another one you own;
  • ask your host to check which address your account has.

You can ask for 3 links to the same email address in 15 minutes. After that the page says "Too many sign-in links requested". Wait 15 minutes, then use the newest email.

A link works once, and only for 15 minutes. If it's been used or is too old, the panel says "The link is invalid or it has expired" (or "Magic link is invalid or it has expired"). Ask for a new one with Log in with email.

Broken and expired links count like wrong passwords against your address, so don't keep retrying an old one.

Your account is suspended

If you sign in and see "Your hosting account is suspended", your host has paused the account. Nothing has been deleted. While it's suspended:

  • you can't manage anything in the panel;
  • your websites show a "temporarily unavailable" page;
  • mail sent to your addresses is still received, but you can't read or send it;
  • FTP sign-ins don't work.

The page names who to contact. Once they restore the account, the page takes you back to the panel by itself, and everything works with the same passwords as before.

Your email app or WordPress sign-in stopped connecting

To stop password guessing, the server can block an address that fails to sign in too often:

  • Email: 5 failed sign-ins to a mailbox in 10 minutes block that address from mail for an hour. This usually happens when a phone or laptop keeps trying an old password after you changed it.
  • WordPress: 10 failed sign-ins to any WordPress site on the server in 10 minutes block that address from every website on the server, and from the panel, for an hour. Sites and the panel then won't load at all from that connection.

The block lifts by itself after an hour. If you can't wait, ask your host to lift it: they can unban an address from their panel. Tell them your public address (search for "what is my IP" to find it) and roughly when it started.

Then fix the cause, or it will happen again: update the saved password on every device that checks that mailbox. See Setting up your email app for the right settings.

The panel says "403 Forbidden"

Your host has limited which addresses can open the panel, and yours isn't on the list. This often happens when your internet provider gives you a new address. Your websites aren't affected. Ask your host to add your current address.
