Finding your way around the panel
The Hosting and Server areas, what each role sees, quick search, switching accounts, your settings and the theme.
Everything in the panel hangs off the sidebar on the left. On a phone or a narrow window it's hidden: press the menu button at the top left to open it. This article shows where things live and the shortcuts that save clicks.
The quickest way to anything is search. Press ⌘K on a Mac or Ctrl K elsewhere, type part of a name, and press Enter.
Hosting and Server
The panel has two areas:
- Hosting is the sites, mail and data of one hosting account: Overview, Domains, Email accounts, Databases, FTP accounts, Cron jobs and WordPress. FTP accounts and WordPress appear only when the server has them installed.
- Server is for running the server and its customers, grouped by job: Customers, Services, Security, Backups & migration and System.
If you can see both, a Hosting / Server switch sits at the top of the sidebar, and only one area's menu shows at a time. On a server page, the top bar shows where you are, such as Server / Security / Firewall.
What you see depends on your role
- Clients see only Hosting, with Updates under System below the Hosting pages.
- Resellers see Hosting for whichever account they've chosen (see below). Their Server area has Customers → Accounts, where they manage their own clients, and System → Updates.
- Admins see every Server page. Their Hosting area is their own hosting account. To open a customer's site, search for its domain.
When a Hostctl update is available, a badge marks Updates, the System heading and, from Hosting pages, the Server switch.
Your Overview page
Hosting → Overview is the first page after you sign in. It shows:
- how many domains the account has, how many are active, and how many have SSL;
- Your plan: what you're using against each limit, when your plan has limits;
- a warning when a mailbox is nearly full, or when a site has no recent backup;
- Recent Domains, and shortcuts to add a domain, a mailbox or a database.
Searching with ⌘K
Press ⌘K (Mac) or Ctrl K (Windows and Linux), or click Search… in the top bar. Search finds:
- pages of the panel you can open, by their name or their group ("fire" finds Firewall);
- domains and subdomains, mailboxes by address, databases by name, and WordPress sites;
- accounts, by name or email, for admins and resellers.
- help guides, by words in their title or summary.
Pages match from the first letter you type; everything else from the second. Use ↑ and ↓ to choose, Enter to open and Esc to close. Hold ⌘ or Ctrl while you click a result to open it in a new tab.
Search looks in the hosting account you're working in. Admins search the whole server.
Working in another hosting account
Resellers manage several hosting accounts: their own and their clients'. On any Hosting page, choose the account under Hosting account at the top of the sidebar and press Switch account. Every Hosting page, and search, then shows that account until you switch again.
Your email address and password
Open Settings, under Account in the sidebar.
- Email: enter the new address and press Send confirmation link. Your current address keeps working until you open the link sent to the new one, which you must do within 7 days. Cancel request withdraws it.
- Password: enter it twice and press Save Password. It must be 8 to 72 characters.
To sign out, press the arrow icon next to your name at the bottom of the sidebar.
Light and dark
The three-way switch at the top right of every page picks the look: follow your device's setting, always light, or always dark. Your browser remembers the choice.
Getting help
Open Help in the sidebar to browse every article. Pages that have an article about them also show a Help link in their header, which opens it directly.
