Setting up hosting plans

Create plans with limits and features, choose the plan new accounts get, and move an account to another plan.

For server admins: the steps need admin access to the panel or the server.

A plan is a named set of limits and features, such as "Starter" or "Business". Every hosting account is on one. Plans live on Server → Customers → Plans; you put an account on a plan from Server → Customers → Accounts.

A new server has one plan, Unlimited, with no limits. Every account is on it until you create others.

Creating a plan

  1. Open Server → Customers → Plans and press New plan.
  2. Give it a Name and, if you like, a Description.
  3. Set the Limits. Leave a box empty for unlimited.
  4. Tick the Features the plan includes.
  5. Tick Resellers can put their clients on this plan if resellers may use it.
  6. Press Save plan.

To change a plan later, press Edit on it. Changes apply at once to every account on the plan.

What the limits mean

Limit What counts
Domains Top-level domains only. Subdomains and WordPress staging sites never count.
Mailboxes Every mailbox on the account's domains.
Databases MySQL and PostgreSQL databases. WordPress staging copies' databases don't count.
FTP accounts The account's FTP logins.
Cron jobs Cron jobs on the account's domains.
Website storage (MB) The account's website files. 5120 is 5 GB.
Mail storage (MB) What the account's mailboxes may be given in all: the sum of their sizes. 10240 is 10 GB.
Web traffic a month (GB) A warning only: nothing is blocked when it's used up.

When an account reaches a limit, adding one more is refused with a message naming the plan, such as "This account's plan (Starter) allows 5 domains." Lowering a limit never removes anything: an account over its new limit keeps everything but can't add more until it's back under.

Website storage is enforced only once Disk quotas is installed on Server → System → Features, and only for isolated accounts. Without it, Server → Overview warns that the limit isn't enforced.

Mail and databases don't count towards website storage. Mail storage is checked when a mailbox is created or made bigger.

Features

A plan can include Email, MySQL databases, PostgreSQL databases, FTP, Cron jobs and Node.js apps, with a Memory per Node.js app of 256 MB to 2 GB. An account can't create something its plan leaves out.

A plan can't switch on something the server doesn't have: install it on Server → System → Features first. Backups, off-site backups and every security feature are part of every plan.

Choosing the plan for new accounts

The plan marked New accounts is the one accounts get until you assign another. To change it, press Use for new accounts on a different plan.

Putting an account on a plan

  1. Open Server → Customers → Accounts and press Details on the account.
  2. Under Plan, choose the plan and press Save.

The new plan applies straight away. Node.js apps start or stop to match it, and its website storage limit is applied. The panel shows the account's usage against each limit underneath. The plan's name also shows on the account's row, and customers see their usage under Your plan on their Overview.

Resellers can do the same for their own clients, choosing from the plans marked Resellers. They can't create or edit plans.

Retiring a plan

Press Archive to stop offering a plan. It needs no accounts on it, and it can't be the New accounts plan. An archived plan stays in the list, greyed out; Restore brings it back.
